There are some things among drummers that are universal. The pinky out issue is one of them.

Every student I have ever had, every drummer I have ever talked to about it, and I myself have gone through the issue of playing with my pinky out. I can't tell you the number of times I've yelled "pinky!" over a student playing through an exercise. Correcting it can take a long time. Why is this such a universal issue among drummers??

More importantly, why should you NOT do this? Why does it hinder your playing?

I was always told not to do this, but I was never given the reason WHY. So in this quick video, I will give you my own thoughts on why you shouldn't allow the pinky out grip to stick around!!

I hope you found this quick lesson both fun and helpful!!
